If the idea of an egg freezing party terrifies you, it should. It’s a toxic combination of alcohol and surgical procedure that frankly I’m surprised is still legal.
And, cut. This is a joke. I hope you are laughing, or at least slack-jawed. I’m obviously kidding here. But you’d be surprised… I have had women ask me all the time if egg freezing actually happens at these shindigs. Alas, no. It most certainly does not. Nor will it ever.
It starts by educating all women, especially those in their 20s and 30s TODAY about the proactive stance they can take for their own fertility
Egg Freezing parties are safe and surgery-free gatherings of women (and sometimes men) to learn about your fertility. There is humor. There is honest talk. Mostly, I throw them because I want every woman (And man) to be empowered about their fertility. It’s really as simple as that.
I want every woman (and man) to learn how they can take a proactive role in supporting their reproductive health through fertility screening (See article, Introducing: The TUSHY Method), learning about the basic process of freezing your eggs (or sperm) and how to decide if egg freezing is the right choice for you.
Think ladies night out with a life changing take-away.
My Main Inspiration
I started Egg Freezing parties for a simple reason. Older women came to my office struggling with fertility only to wish they had known more about it when they were younger. Had someone told them to get their fertility levels checked and to consider the option of preserving their eggs they most certainly would have.
I throw them because I want every woman (And man) to be empowered about their fertility. It’s really as simple as that.
I don’t want to hear years from now that women wished they’d known more about their fertility. This is what drives me to throw parties to make sure everyone knows they have options! I’m an egg rescuer, egg whisperer and fertility myth buster!
My main goal is to reduce regret. And it starts by educating all women, especially those in their 20s and 30s TODAY about the proactive stance they can take for their own fertility.
Getting Ahead of Your Fertility
My main lesson is simple: age is the number one factor that affects fertility. The older we get, the more the quality and quantity of our eggs decrease, and this begins most dramatically after the age of 35.
That’s not to say I’m a naysayer of older women getting pregnant. Quite the opposite. I’ve helped a woman in her 50s conceive. I’ll always be the ultimate fertility cheerleader. I bring hope to life for all people who want to become parents. I solve problems. That’s what I do. Yet, what kind of doctor would I be if I didn’t look for ways to get ahead of infertility?
The more we know, the more we can plan accordingly. With some exceptions, this is generally true across all facets of life. Knowledge, when interpreted and applied appropriately, is truly powerful.
Not Just A T-Shirt! Preventive Fertility Care
This is not merely an information session with great drinks and yummy food , this is meant to inspire action! (Although, I do hope that you meet some new friends and leave with a full belly. I’m a good party host, or so I’ve been told.) Every woman and man will walk away with the clear steps they can take to start to understand and support one of your most precious resources.
I’ll ask the room how much everyone really knows about their own fertility. I’m not talking about what you think you know based on your mom’s ability to get pregnant or what your friend’s experience has been. I’m talking about specific and scientifically validated information about you.
We’ll talk about whether you know the steps to gain a baseline awareness of your fertility, and how to have your lab results reviewed with a fertility specialist. Most people never have experienced this and you are not alone. For some odd reason, our society has shielded women from knowing that we can get our fertility levels checked and track our changing fertility overtime (See article, Think Egg Count and Quality Doesn’t matter, Think Again!)
Egg Freezing parties are just the start to lifting the veil on this taboo topic. Taboo no longer, ladies! But talk is cheap. This we know. Action is what truly matters, and that’s exactly what I want to inspire in each of you. When we get our fertility levels checked as often as we get a pap smear we can make smarter decisions about our plans to conceive. There’s absolutely no reason this can’t be done, and starting today.
To be clear, I am advocating lab tests in combination with a conversation with a real live human being (preferably a fertility specialist) to interpret these results. Numbers alone are not the full story, and you alone are not a number.
Is an Egg Freezing Party Right for Me?
Maybe you fall into one of these camps:
- You want to know your fertility health and what it means for getting pregnant.
- You’re not sure if you want kids, and so will address your fertility if and when you feel differently about starting a family.
- You have a big family and your mom didn’t have problems getting pregnant so the thought of getting your fertility levels checked hasn’t crossed your mind.
No matter which story applies to you, I recommend the same steps to becoming more proactive about your reproductive health. (And yes, even if you’re the woman who is not sure if you want to have kids. Trust me. How you feel and what you want can change over time. I’ve seen it first hand and preserving optionality is a very good thing, especially when it comes to your fertility).
Getting a fertility health check-up should be an ingrained health habit.
3 SIMPLE ACTION STEPS YOU CAN TAKE TODAY:
- Request an Egg Whisperer Fertility Awareness Panel to get your levels checked, and to discuss the results with me in a live phone or video consult.
- Continue to learn more about fertility through The Egg Whisperer Show, which airs live on Facebook and YouTube every Wednesday at 7PM PST. (I take questions for the show via email and on my Facebook page.)
- Request to have an Egg Freezing Party thrown at your company, university or in your city with like-minded friends
